Curriculum Week (Mar 25 - Mar 30)

There is a set Cabra Kai curriculum with the most essential skills and techniques required to progress through the ranks and eventually towards a black belt rank. The curriculum is broken up in to belt levels and stripes within each belt and consists of techniques relevant for you for where you are on your martial arts journey. Member videos can be found here : www.cabrakai.com/ckonline

Curriculum happens every 4 months and in the first week, classes will be set aside for students to work on the set curriculum via the sheets that will given. Curriculum work will mainly be done in the classes on Tue and Thu with all the other days mainly running normal classes (will be shown on Zen Planner). You are also welcome to come in and do extra curriculum work on any other day where there is mat space. On the curriculum days, students will get together with other students who are on the same stripe and work together to practice and drill. Whether you are up for grading or not, it is encouraged to work on the curriculum so when you are up for grading you will be more than ready for it. It is also an opportunity to help others out who are grading who may need people to work with and the favour will most likely be returned when it’s your turn.

If you have absolutely any questions about your curriculum, you can ask one of the coloured belt seniors floating around or you can ask me directly. I want you to do well so don’t be afraid to ask - but in saying that, i also want you to put in the effort and work for it. Nothing of value comes without being earned.

We usually spend about 30 mins working on curriculum and drilling and then we will set the timer for those who want to roll. If you want to keep drilling, that is fine too.

If you are not grading and there’s other aspects of your game you want to work on, then you are also welcome to find partners to drill and work on that. The idea is to spend time self-learning, self-problem solving and working with your peers. Areas of your training that will inevitably lead to more progress and more success. Whatever you decide to do, make the best use of curriculum week whether you are grading or not. I can assure you that if you make the most of curriculum periods you will go far and do well.

Grading Week (Apr 1 - Apr 4)

During grading the following week, students who are up for grading will execute the relevant techniques in front of an instructor and be marked and graded. What day and when you are graded is determined by a reserving a time and day the week before. There will be a sheet up on the whiteboard where you can write in what day you want to be graded.

Grading sessions (will be shown in Zen Planner) can be used to either:

a) keep practicing and drilling curriculum as you are grading for later in the week.
b) keep practicing and drilling curriculum - even your next stripe up.
c) drilling other things you want to work on.
d) talk shit and hang out with mates.

After about 30 mins of drilling the timer wil be set and the rest of class can be used for rolling.

Shark Tank & Promotions Night (Apr 8th @ 7pm)

On Monday during the 7pm class we will be running shark tanks for all students who are being promoted to a new coloured belt. People will be selected to join in to the shark tank. Note that priority is given to higher belts to jump in.
