Escaping Mount

Overview:

Class 1 - Escaping Mount

Warm up:

Part 1 - Elbow Escape (XX:25)

Part 1.1: Basic Elbow escape from mount to halfguard then to full guard.

  1. Frame hips

  2. Straighten leg and turn

  3. Trap ankle

  4. Use elbows/arms to go halfguard

  5. Use arms and hip escape to go to full guard.

* Part 1.2: Extra details

  • Splitting the ankles - Person on top feet’s feet tight so have to work to split their ankles.

  • Avoiding side mount - emphasis on the forearm frame on the hip to prevent opponent sliding to side mount.

Part 2 - Bridge and Roll (XX:45)

Part 2.1: Bridge and Roll

  1. Start with hands on the mat.

  2. Lasso and trap the arm.

  3. Bridge and roll into full guard.

* Part 2.2: Extra details

  • Bridging/bucking to get their hands on the mat, timing the lasso and keeping the arm.

  • If opponent posts their leg up to balance, transition to elbow escape.

Situational:

  • Starting with full mount hands on the mat

  • A: Hold mount or take the back if see opening

  • B: Escape to guard (elbow) or end up on top (bridge)
