Staple passing (10)

(4 techniques combined into 2)

Standing leg pummelling against butterfly to straight inside staple, switch to cross staple knee cut.

  • Start standing with partner's butterfly hooks inside legs.

  1. Place hands on shins to control legs.

  2. Place weight using right knee on top of their ankle and pummell foot over to get inside position.

  3. Using right shin and hand drive their leg to the ground for straight staple.

  4. Partner resists up with leg to avoid staple

  5. Switch to cross side staple for kneecut

  6. Finishing in side control with underhook and crossface.

Standing leg pummelling against butterfly to straight inside staple, double staple, underhook kneeslide pass.

  • Start standing with partner's butterfly hooks inside legs.

  1. Place hands on shins to control legs.

  2. Place weight using right knee on top of their ankle and pummell foot over to get inside position.

Halfguard Passing (15)

Nearside underhook smash pass counter to underhook, finishing in side control.

  • Start in halfguard seated up.

  1. *Partner posts up on elbow to get underhook.*

  2. Use left arm to get nearside underhook and crossface placing head on left side.

  3. Tripod up and circle their knees to the right.

  4. Post your right knee on the right side of their body for base.

  5. Bring left knee over their body on to the ground and pull out right foot.

  6. Use butt and hips to point their knees to the left.

Backstep pass counter to underhook, finishing in side control.

  • Start in halfguard seated up.

  1. *Partner posts up on elbow to get underhook.*

  2. Reach right arm over their left shoulder grabbing their right armpit from behind.

  3. While doing that backstep to the right, with right hip touching the floor.

  4. Use left hand/left leg to free trapped right leg.

  5. Finish in side control with leg lace pointing knees away.

Under over pass when partner switches to kneeshield.

  • Start in halfguard seated up.

  1. *Partner brings in kneeshield to create space.*

  2. Switch to under-over grips and square both their hips flat on the mat.

  3. Point their hips to the right and placeleft knee behind their right knee.

  4. Stepover the right knee to replace the left knee while keeping their knees pointing right.

  5. Finish in side control with leg laced pointing knees away and head control.

Gi Chokes side control (10)

Forearm choke from side control starting in north south

  • Starting in north south with their arms in prayer position.

  1. Pummel right arm inside their elbow to get elbow on the mat.

  2. Reach back and under to grab back of the collar with fingers.

  3. Circle to the right to side control.

  4. Slide left hand across chest, to get thumb inside grip as deep as possible.

  5. Holding collar grip tight with right hand, drive elbow towards the ground across their neck for finish.

Spinning baseball bat choke from side control

  • Starting in side control with partner's arms in prayer position.

  1. Slide right hand across chest to get fingers in grip (palm up).

  2. Grab back of lapel thumb in grip with left hand next to right hand (baseball bat grip)

  3. Tripod up and circle to left to finish in north south, with head planted on the ground on the right side of their body.

  4. Flare elbows out and drive weight down through forearms to finish.

Dogfight (15)

(Same techniques but more specific details.)

Coyote guard to dogfight roll using nearside scoop.

  • Starting in bottom halfguard, tight waist and legscoop.

  1. Switch legs to coyote guard.

  2. Get up to dogfight when opponent sprawls away.

  3. Scoop nearside leg.

  4. Roll under for sweep and finish in side control with leglace and head control.

Using shallow hooks to get coyote guard to dogfight, limparm to back control, finish with back choke with gable grip.

  • Starting in bottom halfguard, partner seated up.

  1. Use shallow hooks to bring partner forward to secure tight waist and legscoop.

  2. Switch legs to coyote guard.

  3. Get up to dogfight when opponent sprawls away.

  4. Use limp arm to free arm to get to back bodylock.

  5. Take back control with hooks in.

  6. Finish with back choke using gable grip.

Coyote guard from mount escape, to dogfight to front triangle choke.

  • Starting in bottom mount.

  1. Use elbow escape to get to coyote guard.

  2. Get up to dogfight.

  3. Move left underhook arm up to trap grip.

  4. Place left leg on partner's back to base with right hand base.

  5. Swing foot under and over their shoulder falling into triangle trap.

  6. Complete triangle choke finish.

Triangle defence (20)

Early triangle defence, 2 arms out, to double leg stack pass to side control.

  • Starting in closed guard.

  1. *Partner gets triangle trap. Left arm in*

  2. Posture and shelf knees under hips while controlling hip with left forearm.

  3. Step up on right foot to pull rigth shoulder back to angle to the left.

  4. Feed right hand in gap between their legs and grab left wrist.

  5. Extract left arm out and sqaure up to get double under grips.

  6. Posture and stack.

  7. Block head and circle to pass.

  8. Finish in side control with leglaced and knees pointing away.

Early triangle defence, 2 arms in, to standing kickback pass to leg drag position.

  • Starting in closed guard.

  1. *Partner gets triangle trap. Left arm in*

  2. Posture and shelf knees under hips while controlling hip with left forearm.

  3. Step up on right foot to pull rigth shoulder back to angle to the left.

  4. Feed right hand in gap between their legs but partner is controll left arm.

  5. Push right elbow in, then right shoulder in and square up to get both arms in.

  6. Stand and perform kickback pass.

  7. Finish in leg drag position.

Late triangle choke escape using hand wedge

  • Starting in tight triangle (left arm in).

  1. Move left hand to frame their right hip using pacman grip.

  2. Walk laterally on knees to the left whilst blocking their hip to misalign triangle.

  3. Reach right arm under their leg to grab upper part of their right thigh next to left hand.

  4. Framing arms against the ground, posture up to create space between their legs.

  5. Release thigh with right hand and slide right wrist in between legs.

  6. Frame aginst their thight to posture up further to create space to extract left elbow out.

  7. Use both forearms to frame against their legs now to create space to free both arms.

  8. Finish with double leg scoop grip and their hips square on the mat.

Late triangle choke escape using elbow wedge

  • Starting in tight triangle (left arm in).

  1. Move left elbow across their body onto the ground to frame their right left hip.

  2. Reach right hand under their left leg and grab inside their left knee with fingers.

  3. Walk laterally on knees to the right whilst blocking their hip to misalign triangle and get their left thigh to the ground.

  4. Framing forearms arms against the ground, posture up to create space between their legs.

  5. Release knee with right hand and slide right wrist in between legs.

  6. Frame aginst their thight to posture up further to create space to extract left elbow out.

  7. Use both forearms to frame against their legs now to create space to free both arms.

  8. Finish with double leg scoop grip and their hips square on the mat.

Kimura defence (20)

  • Kimura escape from north south using Homer run, finishing in closed guard.

  1. Starting in bottom north south with left arm locked in kimura, head pinched.

  2. Pacman grip their right knee as a frame.

  3. Posting on their leg, slide out to free head.

  4. Turn to get left elbow to the ground.

  5. Run feet in a circle to get left knee inside their hip.

  6. Hip escape to square up and pull them into closed guard.

Halfguard kimura escape using half butterfly guard to take back control.

  • Starting in bottom halfguard with left arm locked in kimura, hand in front of body.

  1. Insert left butterfly hook to switch to half butterfly guard.

  2. Post right hand on their left knee to frame.

  3. Elevate left butterfly hook to off balance to the right.

  4. When partner returns, hip escape to the right and grab their waist to climb around to the back.

  5. Grab their right wrist with you right hand from behind to defend further kimura attempt.

  6. Establish back hooks, free arm completely and finish with seatbelt control.

Late closed guard kimura, shoulder roll escape to single leg-X legscoop sweep.

  • Starting in closed guard kimura with left arm locked in kimura behind back.

  1. Tripod up on feet and post head on the ground to the right.

  2. Looking to the right shoulder roll over left shoulder to end up on bottom.

  3. *Neck safety: Partner on bottom looking to right and will back roll over left shoulder.*

  4. Use legs to frame to completely break kimura grip.

  5. Establish single leg-X with legscoop position.

  6. Kick up using scoop sweep, finishing in side control.

Halfguard kimura escape from top using half butterfly hook to take back control.

  • Starting in top halfguard with left arm locked in kimura, hand in front of body.

  1. Insert left butterfly hook inside their bottom knee.

  2. Post right hand on their left hip to frame.

  3. Fall to the right using frame to create space for them to fall inside your hips and grabbing their right hip.

  4. Grab their right wrist with you right hand from behind to defend further kimura attempt.

  5. Establish back hooks, free arm completely and finish with seatbelt control.

Kneeride escapes (10)

Bump up to low single leg, cutback takedown against the sprawl.

  • Starting in bottom kneeride.

  1. Connect left knee to their butt and right foot posted on ground.

  2. Bridge hips up and use left knee to bump partner forward.

  3. Post up on right arm to get onto knees and finish with head inside single leg grip.

  4. *Partner is sprawling legs out*.

  5. Step up on right foot.

  6. Posture head up while swinging arms to the right to get cutback takedown.

  7. Finish in side control with underhook and crossface.

Bump to ankle control to coyote guard, get to dogfight with old school sweep, finish in side control.

  • Starting in bottom kneeride.

  1. Connect left knee to their butt and right foot posted on ground.

  2. Bridge hips up and use left knee to bump partner forward and trap ankle between legs.

  3. Scissor knees to get knee to the ground and get waist grip and ankle control for coyote guard.

  4. Come up to dogfight while holding their ankle to finish old school sweep.

  5. Get to backdoor cross staple position.

  6. Use crossface to create space to get to right knee connected to belly.

  7. Pummel legs to kneeride.

  8. Pummel legs to mount when partner squares hips, feet hidden under hips.

Sit out side control escapes

Sitout: elbow escape to knee lever sweep.

  • Starting in bottom side control sit out position.

  1. Grips: Bring right elbow to their right hip to frame waist. Left thumb gripped inside their left armpit.

  2. Connect right hip to their hips to pinch their hips with your right elbow.

  3. Bridge up to create space under them to slide your right knee under.

  4. *Partner lands on right hip on leg to stop whole leg coming through.*

  5. Bring both feet together close to your own butt.

  6. Pinch their hips with your knees and lever knees to the ground to put them on their back.

  7. Finish in kneeride position.

Sitout: bridging hip escape to bulldozer sweep.

  • Starting in bottom side control sit out position.

  1. Grips: Bring right elbow to their right hip to frame waist. Left thumb gripped inside their left armpit.

  2. Bridge up to create space under them to slide your right knee under but partner shuts opening down quick.

  3. Bridge up a second time, but this time hip escaping away as they return from the bridge.

  4. Do a subsequent hip escape to get to knees to bulldoze them over.

  5. Finish in north south position.

Reverse sitout: bridging hip escape to back control, finish with armbar.

  • Starting in bottom side control reverse sit out position with arms in prayer position.

  1. Bridge up to free arms and frame both forearms on their back having right elbow down towards their hips.

  2. Connect right hip to their body and bridge up to slide right knee under their body.

  3. Hip escape to the right, grab seatbelt and pummel right foot over for back control.

  4. Bring right arm over and switch to kimura back conttrol grip.

  5. Bring right leg over as crossface to bring their back to the mat.

  6. Break grips using feet and finish armbar.

Reverse sitout: Allow the mount attempt to catch halfguard on other side, using claw grip to get back control.

  • Starting in bottom side control reverse sit out position with arms in prayer position.

  1. Bridge up to free arms and frame both forearms on their back to protect arms.

  2. Reach down with right hand to frame their thigh.

  3. When partner attempts the mount, using right hand frame to maintain space, hip escape to the right and trap that leg for halfguard.

  4. Reach up with left arm in front of chest to grab their right shoulder/trap and connect left ear to their back.

  5. Come up onto left knee and to square up with their back keeping head close.

  6. When chest is square lock up seatbelt grip and pull them down to back control with hooks in.
